Welcome to the East/West International Piano Festival website!
After three successful years in China and the past summer in South Korea, we are excited to welcome students and faculty to the 2020 East/West International Piano Festival. This year’s festival will take place from July 27 to August 8 at the Myongji University in Seoul, South Korea. The Festival is open to gifted students of all ages. Acceptance to the Festival is contingent upon the successful submission of audio files of the student’s performances. A teacher recommendation is also required. Seoul is not only a beautiful city, but as the capital of South Korea, it has many historic and picturesque sight-seeing opportunities for the participants.
The 2016 Festival was held at Shandong University in Weihai, China, and included a faculty of eight celebrated international pianists/teachers, as well as 27 students from the United States, China and Japan. The Festival included successful solo and ensemble concerts by the students and faculty, as well as master classes, individual lessons, ensemble coachings, and excursions to nearby historical sites.
The 2017 Festival was held at the Liangzhu International Arts Academy, including faculty from the previous festival year and six new highly celebrated pianists/teachers. With 35 students participating, the festival continued to shine with outstanding solo and ensemble recitals by both faculty and students, informative master classes and lecture recitals, coachings, and private lessons.
The 2018 Festival was held at the Shenzhen Futian International & Fine Arts School, also including faculty from the previous festival year and three new distinguished pianists/teachers. One of the highlights of this Festival included a private tour of the International Chinese Piano Museum, with opportunities for all 37 students to play on historic instruments once owned by composers Haydn, Beethoven and Clementi.
In 2019 the East/West International Piano Festival moved to Seoul, South Korea, where it was held on the campus of the Myongji University. Thirty-six students joined the thirteen international faculty members for the Festival’s exciting debut in Seoul. The vibrant capital city of South Korea proved to be an exciting hub for the dynamic energy of the 2019 Festival!
